Three years ago, when we first set out to include Japanese natural wines on our small but mighty wine shelf, our options were pretty limited. At that time, there was really just one producer on our radar in New York: Grape Republic from Yamagata Prefecture. With their diverse offerings, playful labels, and overall "crushability," our customers quickly became hooked. But as demand grew, the quantities remained small, and we found ourselves at an impasse — until now!
Fast forward to today, and we are thrilled to share that we now carry wines from 10 different producers, spanning across Japan. We’re carrying more wine than ever from Grape Republic, and we’re also introducing wine from Okayama, Nagano, Hokkaido, Yamanashi, Tochigi and Miyagi prefecture! For a while, this sort of diversity of offerings was only available in Japan, but now we can get a gist of the natural wine landscape here in NY.
Our friends at DI-Wine, importers of French and Japanese wine, say it best:
What we love about Japan’s natural wine scene is how it reflects the country’s deep dedication to craft, precision, and subtlety. The same meticulous attention to detail that defines Japanese cuisine and design shows up in the vineyards and cellars, with winemakers carefully coaxing out delicate, expressive flavors from native grapes like Kasha and Muscat Bailey A.
Below are the Japanese Wine Producers we've carried, or are carrying, at Bin Bin Sake. Not all are currently available, but when more wine lands in New York, we will be stocking it and releasing it to our email list. Please email hello@binbinsake.com with any questions!
