The Story

If you're familiar with Kikusui's iconic gold Funaguchi can, this green can is its bolder, fresher sibling. Shiboritate refers to sake that is freshly pressed and bottled (or canned in this case) and that's exactly what you're getting: a junmai nama genshu that captures the lively, vibrant character of sake straight from the press. Brewed with 100% Niigata rice and bottled undiluted at 17.5% ABV, it's full-bodied, punchy, and super flavorful. Kikusui pioneered commercially available nama sake in Japan, and this can is a perfect example of why.

Tasting Profile

Aroma: Fresh and inviting, with notes of melon, citrus, and a touch of sweet rice.

Palate: Lush, bold, and full-bodied, with a crisp, dry character balanced by rich umami and subtle banana and green apple notes. The nama freshness gives it a lively bounce, while the genshu strength brings real intensity and concentration.

Finish: Crisp, dry, and surprisingly clean for such a bold sake.

Serving & Pairing

Serving Temperature: Well chilled.

Food Pairings: This can was built for bold flavors. Think gyoza, ramen, pizza, yakitori, or a cheeseburger. The extra body and dryness stand up to rich, salty, and fried foods with ease.

Why We Love It

We love this can because it's big, fresh, and singular. Kikusui has been making sake in Niigata since 1881 and they literally invented commercially available nama sake in Japan. This shiboritate version takes that legacy and cranks it up to 11. Lively, punchy, and perfect for those moments when you want something bold and satisfying without any fuss. The can format makes it portable, perfectly portioned, and fun. Crack one open at a barbecue, at the beach, or on the couch. No glass needed.
